MADELINE AT TWENTY-TWO MONTHS

Maddie is all grown up. She’s so grown up that she calls her Daddy by his first name now. Sometimes she calls him Daddy Rapp too. “Dan” is not loving this and Mommy has trouble keeping a straight face while correcting her.

She’s testing her limits in all different ways and we sometimes call her Bossy Pants. She loves to negotiate and often gets her way. At Thanksgiving she had a whole table of people holding hands, singing “Ring Around the Rosy” over and over to her hearts content. This is a common occurrence at dinners at home, this time she took her show on the road.

Her brain is a little sponge and we have to watch everything we say and every conversation we have in front of her. She remembers details from things that happened weeks ago and will recount stories about little moments over and over. Ask her what Lucas did to her toy lemon, or what happened when Gaga put on the buzzer to the dryer. She’ll tell you ALL ABOUT IT….a couple of times in a row.

While getting in the holiday spirit, Maddie has become interested in the ballerinas from watching the Nutcracker with Gaga. She likes to lift her leg up off the ground and balance against the couch. She makes running jumps (she gets off the ground now) and does lots of twirls. We call them her ballerina moves.

She’s really into The Lion King and The Little Mermaid right now.
During “The Circle of Life” she likes to run around with her arms up in the air like she’s Rafiki holding baby Simba up over the cliff for all the animals to see. It’s really a sight. She asks Mommy to sing her “Part of that World” over and over on car rides. It’s pretty much the only thing she allows me to sing anymore.

Currently thinks her Mommy’s belly contains:
A baby. Kangaroo.

Thanksgiving 2015

Thanksgiving 2015 was a warm one. Literally. It got up to 63 degrees. Poppy came over for breakfast and then we went to Gaga’s house for a lovely Thanksgiving dinner. Maddie had a cute spot set at the table just for her. Special guest, Turkey Hat, also made an appearance. Maddie made sure all of the little people were in attendance and shared all of their names. Hilarity ensued. Many desserts were had.

Big things:
Flower Girl in Aunt Lauren and Uncle Joe’s wedding – Oct 17
First pigtails – Oct 26
Found out she was going to be a big sister! – Oct 30

Maddie is full of surprises lately! She loves to yell “Surprise” and “Boo,” especially when hiding in her “fort” (a blanket laying over the rocker and ottoman in her nursery). She crawls under there and pokes her head out giggling when you pretend you don’t know where she is. She will invite Mommy and Daddy and toys to come into this 1′ x 2′ space and hide with her too. She’s loving her Halloween book Spooky House, she especially likes the skeleton Skelly Bob and the page where Willa the Witch is making eyeball & spider stew, bug bake, bat sandwiches and dead fly pie. This kid…

She’s moving so fast it’s really hard to get a photo where she is not a blur anymore because she just won’t stay still! She has also started doing a really weird smile when you say “Smile.” If we want a nice photo, we have to tell her to do her “ha-ha” face instead, and then you can get a smile (sometimes). All of these faces are practiced in the mirror after bath time when we wipe away the fog and she’s all bundled up in her towel. We do sad face, surprise face, sour lemon face, ha-ha face and we practice sticking out our tongues. Daddy does “flower face,” folding in his tongue in 3 or 4 parts and she thinks it’s the funniest thing.

She still loves dancing and is really into jumping right now, even though she still just kinda bounces her body in the air without having her feet leave the ground. She will throw herself into Lucas’ dog bed with reckless abandon and is climbing onto everything she can. She had her first injury from dancing too hard and tripping on the stage at the rehearsal dinner for Lauren and Joe’s wedding. She split her lip open a little and got a fat lip just in time for the big day. She bounced back quickly however and no real harm was done. It’s her first little scar though. From partying too hard.

She had a great time at cousins, Jordan and Kendal’s 5th birthday party and LOVED going down the giant inflatable slide off of the moon bounce. She was not interested in having her face painted even after Great Aunt Carol so generously went first to show her there was nothing to fear! (Thanks Aunt Carol!!) Maybe next time?

This big girl is just as sweet as can be and while sometime seems to be teetering on a little bit of Mommy dependance, is really a Daddy’s girl at heart. She has started riding around on Dan’s shoulders and saves all her biggest giggles for him.
