MADELINE AT FIVE MONTHS

Highlights from her fifth month:
Celebrated her first Father’s Day (6/15)
First car ride with Lucas (6/18)
Slept in her crib for the first time  (6/23)
Went on her first hike and first swim  (6/28)
Started sucking her thumb (7/3)
Started “eating” rice-cereal (7/7)

Maddie is becoming more alert every day. She loves being outside and was very content on her first hike at Gunpowder State Park this month. She is paying more attention to Lucas and even reaches out for him. She loves feeling different textures and is using her hands to explore faces and pull hair. She likes to “pet” her Daddy’s hairy arms and legs. She’s perfected blowing raspberries and started sucking her thumb. She’s in the beginning stage of teething so everything is going in her mouth including her feet. Maddie is constantly rolling her tongue around in her mouth, concentrating so hard that she crosses her eyes. She’s still working on perfecting her roll. We think her first time rolling last month was a fluke, because she hasn’t been able to fully pull it off since. Peek-a-boo still gets a smile, but dancing for her is really where it’s at. She loves reading stories, but gets very impatient and wants to help turn the pages. She’s been giggling for Mommy and Daddy, mostly when they are showering her with kisses.

Maddie began getting rice cereal this month and she likes to help feed herself with the spoon. A little more lands in her mouth every day. She holds the hands that feed her a bottle and can be very dramatic about showing you she’s done, usually trying to knock the bottle away. She grew out of her bassinet last month and spent her first night in her crib in her nursery this month. Mommy and Daddy slept on the floor next to the crib and Lucas slept in the doorway for a full family slumber party.

Maddie has spent her first 4th of July showing off her brand new giggle. I managed to catch a moment between her and Dan that was so sweet. She’s laying on her brand new quilt, a handmade gift by our friend Elizabeth White. I can see this beautiful quilt being a back drop for lots of future pictures.

MADELINE AT FOUR MONTHS

Highlights from her fourth month:
Rolled over for the first time (6/1)
Started capturing her legs (6/7)
Got her big toe in her mouth (6/10)

Maddie has gotten very strong in the past month. She kept breaking out of her swaddle blankets so she sleeps with her arms and legs free these days. This means she gets to sleep all night long with her arms up next to her head, just where she likes them. She learned to slam her legs down on the mattress with authority and it kept her awake for a few nights until she decided that she had mastered her new skill. Next, she managed to capture her legs, and a week later her toes were in her mouth!! Her neck is very strong and she has started to enjoy tummy time. As a birthday present to Poppo, she rolled over for the first time on his birthday. She likes to “Superman” on Mommy’s legs and can sit in her Bumbo with some assistance. She can move things back and forth and rotate them in her hands and likes to help feed herself her bottles.  She blows bubbles and makes raspberries when her hands aren’t completely stuck in her mouth. She has started babbling and squealing and has a little laugh. Can’t wait to hear a full out giggle. She is facinated by the baby in the mirror and has started to show interest in her “fur-brother” Lucas. She enjoys being outside and taking walks with him.

Madeline spent a fantastic Father’s Day celebrating her Daddy, Poppy and Poppo. Maddie was in a great mood despite a nail clipping tragedy that left her with a sock for a hand. (She’s ok, there are still 5 fingers under the sock)
